In honor of David Bowie’s newest release, we’ve dedicated our lists this week to the legend. David Bowie is a man who has spanned many generations with his music. In doing so, he has also taken on many different forms. Whether through his acting career, his music career, and sometimes a combination of the two, David Bowie has worn many, many hats. This list is dedicated to our favorites. Anything goes, from the zany album characters he’s created to any acting role he’s taken on, here are our favorite Bowies, done by Bowie:
5. Nikola Tesla aka “Prestigious Bowie” OR “Electric Bowie”

Tesla was a man, who after working for Thomas Edison, began to outshine Thomas Edison. Problem was Edison had too much power and too may patents to allow Tesla’s name be known. We at LxL think that’s a shame and we’re happy to see ole’ Nikola not only get some publicity, but be portrayed brilliantly by the one and only Bowie in this outstanding performance.
4. Halloween Jack aka “Diamond Bowie”

After retiring Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Bowie jumped onto another concept for Diamond Dogs. Not quite as sound and strong as Ziggy and his gang, but these glammed-out ruffians sure could hold their own. Run by non-other than their fearless leader, Halloween Jack of course.
3. Thomas Jerome Newton aka “The Other Bowie Who Fell to Earth”

For the second time in Bowie’s illustrious career, he portrayed an alien fallen to Earth. This time the act was for the silver screen in the movie The Man Who Fell To Earth rather than the glamorous life of Ziggy Stardust. Thomas was also a bit less outgoing than Ziggy; more of a starchy, uptight, almost robotic character. Quite impressive, to say the least, was Bowie’s performance. It even inspired the great Michael Fassbender for his role as David the AI in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Unfortunately for Bowie, his musical efforts were denied for the soundtrack of the film, but lucky for us, he did at least transform them into the album Low.
2. Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane aka “Alien Bowie”

The most iconic image of Bowie’s career as well as one of the most iconic figures in early rock’n'roll. Ziggy Stardust was an alien that had fallen to Earth with his Spiders from Mars and toured as a rock hero. Ziggy Stardust is still one of the greatest and most imaginative figures in rock history. The movie also provided an era of music for Bowie that is unprecedented and our favorite Bowie era here at LxL. Aladdin Sane is what Bowie described as “Ziggy goes to America” … get it? A lad insane. Apparently Ziggy wasn’t the biggest fan of the States in the 70′s.
1. Jareth the Goblin King aka “Labyrinth Bowie” OR “Bulging
Bowie”

This was tough to put over Ziggy, but when it comes down to it, we decided that the bigger the bulge, the better the Bowie. That’s all there is to it. There are some roles in cinema history that are just inarguably made for certain people; Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader, Daniel Day Lewis as Daniel Plainview, Jim Carey as Ace Ventura … and David Bowie as The Goblin King. He also created one fun soundtrack in the process.
