Here it is, the last of our end of the year lists. And no, it does not pertain to music. We know we are a music blog, but we do also have a strong passion for the more visually exciting end of the entertainment industry as well. This was a bit of a difficult year for us to agree on, especially because we have not all seen the same movies, or for that matter, even all the movies we’d like to have seen. So in these instances, some were missed and some were snubbed. In any right, here was what we came up with for our favorites of 2012:

Top Ten Thursday: Best Movies of 2012
10 JanWeak List Wednesday: The Top 5 Biggest Disappointments of 2012
19 DecSo here we are, with our newest and shortest “End of 2012″ list. A list of what we at LxL consider to be the biggest musical disappointments, let-downs, blunders, and missteps of 2012. With all the goodness that resided in the world of music in 2012 (which we will get to later, in the next few weeks), there was also a fair amount of disappointment. For this list we really pulled at what killed our expectations this past year. Yes, Lana Del Rey didn’t fully live up to what we expected, but she still had a few good tunes and looked amazing throughout the year.
Yes, the Divine Fits weren’t as good as either Spoon nor Wolf Parade, but then again, how rare is it that a supergroup live up to the expectation anyways? You see, for this list, we chose what really cut us deep. Those artists or albums that we really thought were going to help define the year in music, or dig an artist out of the trenches, but instead fell totally flat. That is what this “Weak List” is really made up of … weakness. If you’d like to get a bit of a more in-depth analysis these blunders, each “disappointment” is linked with our review or write-up explaining exactly why the artist, album, or show didn’t live up to our expectations. Now, onto the list:

HOTT MT Show Review
1 AugHOTT MT
The Echo
Los Angeles, CA
July 31, 2012

Over the three years I have lived in Los Angeles, The Echo has become one of my favorite spots. Not only is it a good bar that pulls in on-point DJ’s weekly, but it is also a great concert venue that tends to pull in some pretty killer-diller shows as well. If you’re lucky, and as was the case last night, those shows are sometimes even free. Last night I met up with my good friend David at The Echo to see a band that is fronted by a good friend of his. The band was HOTT MT, otherwise known as Hour of the Time Majesty Twelve. If you don’t know of the band but this name somehow still looks familiar to you in anyway, it is probably because you are a Flaming Lips fan of sorts. Not only were they featured on the leading track of The Flaming Lips last album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, but The Flaming Lips frontman himself Wayne Coyne guest stars in one of HOTT MT’s songs as well.

LxListening: It Shall Be Released
29 JunRecently there has just been a slew of “unreleased music” that has been dropped onto the inter-webs. A lot of it is clearly intentional, I suppose to probably get the public interested and eager for the artist’s new material that is about to drop. But whether it is because of song leakage (Antlers), announcement videos (Cat Power), or the artists just straight-up releasing a single/video months before the new album drops (M.I.A/Dirty Projectors), all of the below tracks are out and available for a listen. If these tracks are any implication for the rest of their respective albums, we are in for a real treat in late 2012. So in honor of our “Best of the Year … So Far” lists, here is a little taste of what I have been listening too lately, and what we have to look forward to for the remainder of the year.
