Kings of Leon
Southern rock family Kings of Leon was once a band loved and cherished by all three of us at LxL, but the band spoiled quickly following their commercial breakout Only By The Night, even landing our #4 slot on our Bands Breaking Bad list. Their last album Come Around Sundown was a full-on nosedive, and now they return for the first time in 3 years with Mechanical Bull, an album that marks a bit of a return to their original driving rock ‘n’ roll sound, but with middling songs and a posture as if the band is going through the motions.
Sleigh Bells may not ever go down as one of the best bands of this musical generation, but dammit if this Brooklyn spawned two piece isn’t one of the more fun acts around. Their music is loud. It’s punchy. And it’s infectious. When first hitting the scene with Treats, Sleigh Bells’ sound was brilliant, new, and fresh. Following up with Reign of Terror, without changing their sound, they were able to continue to garner praise and expand their fan base. Now with the release of their third album Bitter Rivals, they are once again able to hang on to that signature high octane, overdriven sound. But will their still-young audience stay interested?
We at LxL are all huge Arrested Development fans. And while the highly-anticipated fourth season resurrection may have come in under expectations, we thought we would still honor the effort with a list. Before anyone makes a nasty remark in the comments section, yes, Billboard (who did a fantastic job) did a list along the same theme as this, but we eschewed all their song choices except for one. As for the content of the list, we just attempted to pair each character with a song suiting their character. A little different than our other lists, we decided it would be pointless to put them in any particular order. This list more than any other, we would love to hear your suggestions for additional pairings. Thanks and enjoy.
Michael: Sly & the Family Stone – “A Family Affair”
Michael’s goal has always been to “keep the family together”, but if the fourth season of AD is any indication, Michael may just turn out crazier than Sly Stone himself.
