I was lucky enough to attend a show last Friday at Off Broadway in St. Louis featuring two bands: Water Liars and Bo & the Locomotive. I had listened to Water Liars a little bit upon the recommendation of my roommate, who is also a friend of Bo & the Locomotive’s bassist. Suffice it to say, the show was awesome.
But, there are several factors as to why I don’t want to review it like I would most other shows. First, not tons of people are familiar with either band, so me describing the live experience won’t make too much of an impression. Second, I was mostly unfamiliar with all the music going into the show, so I don’t know the setlists or the names of the songs that particularly moved me live. And finally, I am going to try to interview Bo & the Locomotive sometime soon, so I want to hold off and do more of a feature piece much like this one will be. In lieu of a show review on Water Liars, I thought I might just talk about the show a little bit and introduce the band to some degree (and probably make some ham-handed and lofty comparisons in the meant time). Let’s get to it.
